Your Reception Location

Some of the choices you will make will be very obvious, such as these:
  • Price, size, general facilities
  • Location and parking
  • General style and ambiance
  • ... and things like that.

Below are a few less-obvious considerations.

An interesting thing about receptions is that they are just a giant, well-planned, well-focused party. The reception will usually follow the style of your wedding.

Plan it around your guests. Certainly, it is a party thrown for you, but the comfort and enjoyment of your guests should be one of your highest priorities.

Are your guests young and energetic? Do they love to party? If so, any rules regarding bands, loud music past a certain hour, and people in the hallways, should be checked.

Food? If your location is a hotel or other type of venue where they provide catering, you will want to check the quality of service. Did someone recommend this location? If so, ask if they will give you a candid appraisal of the service they’ve received there.

If any specific posed outdoor photos are very important to you, you will want to consider the lighting: Just visit the location during the same time as your reception. You might find a better shot!
