Transportation

On the Central Coast, you can choose from every type of transportation available.

There are carriages, limousines, antique cars, etc. For all of them, keep in mind a few important considerations.

What’s your pleasure? A wonderful gliding open-air carriage ride, sharing your happiness with all of those who smile and wave to you? Or, would you prefer a private setting, inside a luxurious limousine with champagne and seclusion? Or, maybe a vintage auto is more your style?

Regardless of your mode of transportation, the ride from your ceremony to your reception will be one of the most memorable rides of your life!

Getting There

The Bride normally arrives at the ceremony location with her father or escort. If there’s room, as there is in a super-stretch limousine, you can include other members of your family and wedding party. The same vehicle that brings you to the wedding ceremony is used to take you and your husband from the ceremony to the reception.

Limousines are still the most popular, simply because they offer air conditioning, privacy, room for your gown, and other amenities such as refrigerators, chilled champagne and glasses, etc. It’s important to reserve your limousine early, because all services are heavily booked.

How much time should you reserve when you are (well in advance) making your reservation? If you think you will need two hours, ask for three, to make sure you won’t get hung up by another wedding’s lateness.

Liveried Carriages

Carriages offer an elegant, fun alternative to limousines. Since carriages are pulled by horses, they can go just about anywhere. If you can reach your reception by a country road, a leisurely carriage ride might be perfect! Expect an average speed of about eight miles per hour. If you want to have a bit of peace and quiet between ceremony and reception, the carriage ride can be just the ticket.

Remember to ask the carriage company if they will provide a top and/or curtains for the carriage in case of rain or wind. And, just as with limousines, be sure to reserve as early as possible! The quality services in this area are normally booked far in advance.

If you like the open air, why not rent a nice convertible for a couple of days?

(If you’re driving away for your honeymoon, just use the convertible.)

Antique cars are available for rent through some of the car clubs in the area.

Contact a couple and ask. You might never have occasion to ride in a restored Ford Model-T again, and its color (“Anything you want as long as it’s black.” -- Henry Ford) will go with all color schemes. You might even find one with a rumble seat!
