Guest Accommodations

It isn’t difficult to book a room, if you can find it! During the most popular wedding season on the Central Coast, you might have a difficult time doing that! Here's some help.

Do the homework for your guests.

Some of the out-of-towners won’t know whether the rates they’re seeing online are high, low or what. If you are a ‘local’ Bride (living in this area), do some calling for your guests. Get rates, including group discounts, from every place you talk with. Don’t forget the discounts, either: Every hotel and motel offers discounts for certain memberships, such as AAA or AARP.

Just the nice places.

Of course, this being a beautiful area, most places are in a good location. But, you know the ones where your honored guests will feel most comfortable. Most likely, they will prefer to pay an exta $10 or $20 a night and not have to worry about somebody working on a truck in the parking lot.

Put Together An Email Message

You will have a lot of information after just a few calls. Put it all into one email and send it to yourself. That way, you can forward a copy Or, you can print and mail it when that’s a better option.

Pre-book a block of rooms for them.

Your guests will probably appreciate this, and you can save them some money, too. Call the hotels and motels you’re interested in and ask for their policy on it.

Send them a little map of the area.

Great detail in a map probably won’t be necessary: Just photocopy the map in this magazine on page 10 and send it to them. If you want the map online, it is at this web URL: www.slorates.com/map.pdf .

Take and send some pictures, too!

If a picture is worth a thousand words, you can save yourself some typing! Just shoot some snapshots and put them in another email!

Do you know about Googles “Earth”?

If you have a computer that will support it, you can download a program called “Earth” from Google’s home page, and with it you can gaze down on high resolution photos of anyplace you want to see. Try it, it’s free: go to www.google.com/earth/ and take a look. You can zoom in on your own address, follow a trail from the rim to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, etc.

This program also will show and give you information on just about every hotel and motel in the area. Enter Apple Farm San Luis Obispo, and you’ll zoom in on every motel on Monterey St. Click any name, and you’ll get the info on it, including driving directions, etc.

It’s a lot of fun and very useful for helping guests find their way!
